Howard Dean
[a picture was here, it was not saved]
I walked in to the Howard Dean rally undecided about whether I would be supporting him. While we waited for him to make his way from Austin, the crowd steadily grew to about 3,500, which I believe is pretty darn good – especially in San Antonio. The first thing that struck me was the huge amount of Democratic cheerleading. That’s not something that really appeals to me but I definitely got the sense that the Democratic community is totally behind Dean. What did impress me was which Democrats were there - Mike Villarreal, Ruth Jones McLendon, and Joaquin Castro – three of our state representatives who went to Oklahoma to prevent the Republican’s redistricting plan. Finally at about 9pm Howard Dean came out and spoke for about 30 minutes. Click here to hear what he said. I agree with him on most (not all) issues, plus, he’s passionate, he’s smart, and he’s got the balls to stand up to Bush unlike many of the wishy-washy-we’re-afraid-to-call-it-like-is Democrats. He’s also got my vote.
