What's the deal with movie theaters?

I'd love to go see a movie today before my kids get out of school at 3p.m. but most films don't start until after 1p.m. What's the deal? How about noon? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait until Wednesday night when I can see The Matirix Reloaded.
