Solaris
I watched the DVD of the Solaris remake last night. I really liked it when it came out and I like it even more now. It's really an amazingly well done film and I think it's much better than the original 1972 Tarkovsky version. Emotionally, it's very real and poignant. In addition it is shot and edited beautifully. If you are interested in filmmaking, see this and then listen to the commentary track. Soderbergh goes through all the stuff he reshot and reorded and how the film evolved in the cutting. I just love how it's quiet and thoughtful and focuses on the characters. It's not just George Clooney all the time or special effects all the time. Much of the time Clooney's back it to the camera or his lines are off screen. I've never been a big fan of Soderbergh - I don't dislike his films - but this film really deserves a lot of respect.
