A Screenplay
About a year ago I got interested in writing as part of my commitment to make films. Since then I've been writing stories, memories, and short scripts. I've tried a couple of times, unsuccessfully, to write a feature-length script. I've got a number of ideas but the one I keep coming back to is about an imaginary world. This is the passage I wrote about the creation of that world. Right now it opens the screenplay I'm working on.
We float in a sea of stars. Drifting past glowing clouds of gas and dust we finally settle on a small, but bright point. Moving closer we are enveloped in it's intense, neon blue glow. Just then, as our eyes adjust, a figure begins to emerge. As we move closer still, the figure is revealed to be that of a woman. She is beautiful and nude. Her body, generous and fertile like an ancient goddess. Her skin is a warm, deep brown and her dark hair floats in tightly curling strands creating a halo around her head.
Closing in on her face we see that she is quietly weeping. The tears rolling off her cheeks crystallize into egg-shaped vessels that begin to move away from her. Two tears join together just as they come off of her cheek. Their oversized mass spins unevenly until the two halves are pulled apart. The now separate tears each become tiny ovoids floating in space. Circling each other they begin to make their way, along with dozens of others, toward a group of planets in the distance.
Closer to the planets, the pair are drawn away from the group toward a small blue world. Moving closer, the blue world's grey moon seems to lie in their path. As the two come upon the moon, they are separated as one is caught in it's pull. The other escapes and continues falling toward the blue world. Down through pure white clouds the vessel gently comes to rest in the sand of a pristine beach.
Moments later, a door in the side of the egg-shaped vessel slides open and a small boy steps out. He walks out to the surf and scans the heavens. His gaze comes to rest on the face of the moon, ghost-like in the bright morning sky.
At the same moment, looking down at the Earth from the Moon, a small girl cries for the one she has lost.
