It’s vlog anarchy week. I’m going to do a vlog a day for the next week with the idea of experimenting with the medium. I’ll tag all of these “vlog anarchy” over at Mefeedia. Please feel free to add your stuff to the mix. Eric Rice already did. Check his out - it’s pretty cool.

What do I really want to say…. I don’t hate you for using the I Ching in your vlog. It’s quite artistic, but at the same time it troubles me. The I-Ching is a book of divination to forcast change. Used for, what I think, a tool for personal growth. In one way I applaude your cultural diversity, on the other hand I am somewhat displeased. It saddens me like when I see people with Chinese tatoos who don’t really know what they mean but think looks “cool”. Maybe you are cultured and actually appreciate the work for what it is. Who am I to judge. I justed wanted to present you with my personal thoughts because I too read the I-Ching and for it I have great respect. I just don’t want it to be used as a tool for “cool”, it is after all philosophically sacred.
Think of it as me plastering verses from another cultures bible and trying to sell “style” or “cool”. I don’t think Christians or Catholics would see that as dignified. The same goes for the Book of Changes. Respect.
Well I bought the book originally because I was facinated with the way John Cage applied it to his music. The guy who owned the used bookstore where I bought it taught me how to use the yarrow stalks to consult the oracle and how to read the different interpretations. The text that I used in the video is one I came upon a bunch of years ago that has always stuck in my head. It’s something I think of when I’m “stuck.” Now as far as sacredness… in this case, I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful. Although I’ve got no problem being disrespectful of any religion where I think it’s deserved.
J.L. makes one hell of an assumption. How could he possibly know your intention?
I bet theres a bit to learn in I-Ching (this is my first seeing/hearing/reading of it) about assumption and quick judgements.
