Second Life

I’ve been super busy with videoblogging stuff (FreeVlog, NODE101, etc.) and haven’t played Second Life very much at all in the last six months but Andrew Baron posted about it on the videoblogging list the other day so I thought I make a quick video about it. I’ve played it off and on since Jan 2004. It was a big inspiration for and was a part of my performance piece “Holodeck” which I did at Jump-Start in April 2004. Anyway, they’ve made the basic account free now so give it a try if you’re so inclined. While you’re there, stop by my, I mean, Aren Mandala’s house (located at Suisun 67,151) and watch some videoblogs. The videoblog playing in this clip (along with others in Second Life) is Ryanne’s “Dance Of Destructive Forces.”

    That is wild! A virtual world with building high screening of a videoblog.

    My impression is that the quality of the audio is essential to the quality of Second Life.

    didn’t this used to be a PC-only thing?
    i’ve always wanted to try it. i remember watching the demo videos of flying around and being entranced.

    oh no… i don’t have time for this…
    i’m Doktor Neurocam. i’m totally chillin’ at your vlog-pad! no videos are playing, although there is some nice classical music.

    ok, that freaked the shit out of me when that music started playing, i was like huh? i don’t get this online world, how come all these other people can find your world in theirs on the same game? i guess they just find you like in the real world. what the heck?

    I’m a Teen-Grid er, and for all those other people, SL is fantastic, there are thousands of things to do, this is just a small example.
